10 TRIED & TRUE NATURAL SLEEP REMEDIES

Sleeping well has always eluded me. Even as a child, I didn’t want to miss anything, so I would delay bedtime for as long as possible. Now, as an adult, I desperately long for a full night of uninterrupted sleep. Not easy, especially when traveling. So, I’ve experimented to find Sleep Remedies That Really Work… and have found 10 natural tried and true sleep remedies.

I have tried everything from Ayurveda, to homeopathy, to essential oils– the gamut. Here are the very best solutions I have found… And I am happy to say, they do work!

10 SLEEP REMEDIES THAT REALLY WORK

MAGNESIUM

600-1000 MG. It’s best to start with a small dose and work up. Too much can cause digestive issues and can also affect some medications. It’s always good to check with your doctor.

CHILL PILL P.M.

My Integrative Doctor, Dr. Karen Sun, has a proprietary formula that includes magnesium, passionflower extract, PharmaGaba, valerian root, Hops Extract and melatonin. It’s called Chill Pill P.M. and it truly does help me chill. This has been a game changer.

EPSOM SALT BATH

Add a cup or two of epsom salts and a few drops of lavender oil to a hot bath and soak for 20-30 minutes. This is great for relaxation.

MAGNESIUM SPRAY

Yet another form of magnesium sulfate which encourages relaxation and some scientists have said an increase in serotonin levels. Spray on the bottoms of your feet and on your wrists.

EARPLUGS

When a friend suggested sleeping with earplugs I was very skeptical. What if someone broke into my house and I couldn’t hear it? What if there was an emergency and I couldn’t hear the phone? But silicone earplugs don’t block out all noises, just the annoying ones that seem to keep people awake (a fly buzzing, a faucet dripping, etc…). Mack’s Silicone Earplugs have been another game changer for me.

RESCUE REMEDY SLEEP MELTS

This homeopathic formula helps when I’ve had too much caffeine and my thoughts are racing. I melt two Rescue Remedy Sleep Melts under my tongue and they help me sleep in no time.

HEAVY BLANKET/WARM BEANBAG

There is something to having some weight on your body when you are trying to sleep. In the winter I use a heavy blanket and in the summer I will put a warm beanbag on my chest. I like the unscented ones. The weight and warmth are soothing.

BREATHING EXERCISES

Sometimes a little deep breathing works wonders. Yoga and meditation instructors say it calms the central nervous system. My favorite is to either take three very deep, long breaths OR use the “5,6,7 technique” (take an in breath for 5 counts, hold it for 6 counts, then release it for 7 counts. Repeat at least three times.)

VIPARITA KARANI

One of my favorite yoga poses is Viparita Karani, also known as “legs up the wall pose.” It’s a fast way to calm the central nervous system and hijack the “fight or flight” mode our brain sometimes goes into right before sleep. Just recline on the floor next to a wall. Scoot your rear so that it touches the wall and put your legs up on the wall. If that’s confusing, go here to see the pose.

SOUND MACHINE

Another way to block out annoying sounds that might keep you awake is to use a sound machine or a sound App.

PUTTING IT TO BED

Those are my sleep remedies that really work (30+ years of sleeping difficulties and 30 years of research). I hope they work for you, too. If you want Online Yoga & Meditation Classes for an extra boost, go here. Night night!

Office vibes— modern combined with a little bit of fancy. My office/studio is more maximal than minimal… The only place in the house where things aren’t reined in…

This is where I display artwork my grandmothers painted, coveted watercolors that my dad gave me, my children’s artwork and notes (my priceless treasures), and baskets full of projects in various stages. Paintbrushes, paint, clay, beads, stone and fabric samples all take center stage here. *More photos to come— including BEFORE & AFTER shots.

Do you have a room that reflects your interests and personality? I would love to hear about it. ☺️

When I’m on vacation, I stop long enough to reflect on life, love, my design business.

Thanks to each one of you for following along! It’s been great making new friends, finding new clients (who most often turn into friends🤍) and sharing all of the things that make me happy— travel, design, art, architecture and, of course, family and friends.

Have a wonderful week! .
